What this build is worth today
This is what it would cost to replicate the van at current prices
- Fiat Ducato Maxi L4H3 160HP: ~€44,000 (Spanish dealer list, VAT + registration tax included). On top of that, the ZF 9-speed automatic gearbox (which would have added another €3,000) is no longer offered in this configuration — manual only — not a minor detail.
- Professional conversion: ~€40,000.
- Victron LiFePO₄ 330Ah battery (never charged above 80% or discharged below 20%), Alpine sound system with HDR reversing camera, other extras: ~€5,000.
Today's equivalent: ~€89,000. I'm asking €74,900 and, if you're a reasonable negotiator, it might come down a bit 😉
And a fresh build from a serious Spanish workshop has a one-to-two-year waitlist — on top of however long the dealer takes to deliver the van.
At €74,900 you get a finished, road-tested van with maintenance up to date — no waiting, and with a ZF 9-speed automatic that's no longer fitted from the factory.
Why I'm selling
I'm selling the van I built with all the love in the world, made to last me a lifetime. I'm a stickler about everything, and I've obsessed over every detail of the design and the build of this project — it's been my life for 5 years.
I wanted something for me — a digital nomad who, just as I hate fixed schedules, also hates fixed places and everything that comes with renting rooms, hotels, and the rest. I wanted to be free, to decide in the morning whether to train, work, or head off on a trail. Over these years I've travelled a lot of Europe, with the birds. When it's cold I head south; when it's hot I head north. It's a wonderful life at 25°C, and magically it cuts against the standard tourist cycles. While everyone is roasting under the summer sun on a beach in Andalusia or Sicily, I'm by a lake in the Alps or in a forest in Scandinavia.
But above all, I've lived in places. One year I was in Denmark and wanted to go to the Dolomites, so I decided to swing by Berlin to see my friend Ingo for a few days. A few days turned into 3 weeks! Parked in Kreuzberg, 20 metres from my friend's place. We were neighbours! The hottest September in years, Germans out enjoying their city in the streets, and I got to live it with them — like an April in Seville (which I've also had). I have so many stories like that, and now they can be yours. Need another bed? You pop one in — and skip the bike rack like I did. The possibilities are endless. Me, now, I want something else 😜
